What is Film Photography
Film photography is a traditional form of photography that uses film to capture images on a physical medium. Basically what your parents most likely used to capture photos of you throughout your childhood. They would purchase a roll of film and place it into their camera and all the photos would be captured onto the roll, where they would then drop it off to get developed. But due to this photos are not able to be viewed until the development progress is over and many things could happen in the process that could damage the images.
With film the photos tend to have a different look to them compared to photos taken on digital cameras. They tend to have more grain and different colors/hues depending on the type of film being used. This has become very popular due to having a slightly vintage look to the photos.
Types of Film
There are many different types of 35 mm film, many different companies create their own. Each type has its own unique look to it focusing on different colors, different amounts of grain. All of this can add more beauty to the photos.
Separate tabs are on the site to display how the photos tend to look with the different film stocks.
I'll also give a quick rundown on which films are best suited for different scenarios.
Ilford HP5 B&W
This film is good for almost all sorts of lighting, but it is a black and white film. Provides a classic look along with a decent amount of grain.
Kodak Ektar
One of the most beautiful films for brighter days. Can highlight reds very well which can sometimes effect lighter skin tones in a harsh way. Really great for landscape photos. Sadly this film needs a lot of light so I only recommend it for outdoor bright shoots.
Kodak Gold
Another beautiful film stock that highlights color very beautifully. Great and capturing skin tones and has a great vintage look to the photos. Would also recommend to use this film outdoors.
Kodak Portra
Beautiful film that highlights colors very well. This is the best film for lowlight situations so great for indoor shoots and night shoots.
